Mercedes R. Elvira
Mercedes Rodríguez Elvira was born in Santander. She graduated from the Faculty of Fine Arts of the Complutense University of Madrid. Later, she completed his training at the Chicago Institute of the Arts, USA.
In 1972, after her first exhibition, she has had numerous exhibitions, both individual and collective, in Spain, the United States, Argentina, England, France, Italy and Portugal.
She currently works in her studios in Chicago, Madrid and Santander.
In 1990 she began to give creative workshops with waste materials, sponsored by Cultura en Santander, Caja Cantabria Foundation, Madrid Fine Arts Circle, with the ONCE Foundation …. etc.
She worked as a teacher of art and regulated drawing, in high school and secondary education centers, from 1978 to 2004, constantly, in different centers of Cantabria and Castilla León.
She has public works installed in different parts of the Cantabrian geography, Torrelavega and Puerto de Alisas. And there are numerous private collections and public organizations that have some of her works, in her art funds.
She regularly participates in different art fairs in Europe and the United States: Arte Santander, Feriarte, Estampa, Art Madrid, De Arte, Arte Sevilla, Porto Fair, Art New York, Valencia Contemporary Art Fair, La Almoneda, Art Elysees Moderne et Contemporain Paris, Art Chicago ……
Combines sacrificial dolls of primitive human art and decorative art, depicting different forms of the human body with smooth curved surfaces and arbitrary curves. There is relaxation and tension, both rough and delicate.
